Can I post an article on Blackboard that I received through interlibrary loan without violating copyright laws?

Many of the articles I use are not available as full text. Once I receive them through interlibrary loan, I want to post them to Blackboard. I wouldn't think each student would have to order it through interlibrary loan, right?

Answer

An article requested through ILL can be posted for educational reasons on Blackboard as long as the course is being taught. When the course is not being taught the article should be removed. Use of an ILL article for a Blackboard course falls under "fair use". Students can download the article you post through Blackboard because they are registered for the course.
